Ladies and Gentleman, Children of all ages, [usual] Suspects proudly presents a mesmerizing masterpiece of mammoth proportions! It’s been years since the tiny town of Erwin Tennessee has seen a circus parade through it’s muddy yellow streets, and the townspeople of Erwin are starving for a show. It’s perfect timing, because Sparks World Famous Shows has a particularly special attraction, all new for 1916, the largest living land animal on Earth, Mary!

For 20 years, a town (not unlike your town) has suffered a drought. A large, monopolizing corporation, with politicians and the police in their deep pockets, is charging fees as they please for water usage. When a new fee hike is imposed, the poor and downtrodden rise up against their oppressors and learn lots of lessons. There’s singing and dancing and things like that. Some characters even fall in love. You will laugh. You will cry. You will probably wet yourself, which you will be responsible for.
A young couple is excited to be welcoming their first child into the world! Unfortunately, it’s not a typical child but rather a…for lack of a better word a “Smudge”? This dark surrealist comedy ponders both the banality and miracle of life while examining the duality of parenthood and marriage.
Jonathan and I got to see The Realistic Joneses last night in the Nordlof's blackbox, and we both were so completely sucked in to the hilarious and heartbreaking slice of life that unfolded before us.I am so grateful to have been transported by a story that gave me so much to feel and think about, whether that be the trials of mental and physical illness, the simultaneous importance and meaningless of words, or the ridiculousness of being alive in general and trying to construct something worth holding on for. Also, it's really funny in that sobering, confusing, sometimes slap-happy way that life is.If I had been free to see this show earlier this month, you can BET I would've come to see this several more times. Luckily for the rest of you, you've got this closing weekend!I 10 out of 10 recommend going to see this show, even if you don't usually 'do' theatre.Beautifully staged vignettes, beautiful set, beautiful sound, and a beautifully well told story. Everything about this was thoughtfully done and I am very proud of my friends!
I saw Hair last night (final show), and all I can say is that if I’d known it would be that good, I would have offered to play in the band. I grew up listening to this music and love it, and this production was outstanding. Thanks for posting that rehearsal of Let The Sun Shine In- for me the highlight of the show is the beginning of of that song when the 2 women (I think the characters are Sheila and Venus) sing together, and they nailed it. I got chills when I heard it live. Other musical highlights were Frank Mills, Easy to be Hard, and most of What A Piece of Work is Man. Thanks Stella for Aquarius and Colored Spade. If it didn’t end last night, I would go again. Cast, band, crew, and production team, I give you my thanks for a job well done!
We brought our 13-year old grandson. There was a slight discomfort level. We probably should have prepared him a little more. But, while he didn’t get every reference, he enjoyed it - as did we! He was even talking about writing a play on the way home. So, enjoyable on many levels. Great acting and singing, the storyline still so appropriate and a great history lesson.
Just got home from, "Hair"! Wow! I really loved it! This is the show's 50th anniversary and it's as relevant today as it was in 1968. I loved how they brought the timelines together. I had tears at the end. All the, "feels" as they say. Go see it, take your friends, neighbors, relatives, etc. Then, talk about it.
My daughter and I just attended “ 12 Angry Men” this evening”... we were captivated from the beginning to end! I truly felt as if I was sitting in a room of true jurors as they battled out the fate of a real life! It was moving... the cast did an excellent job.. we look forward to enjoying more productions at your lovely and intimate little theater! Bravo !
I saw their show "Twelve Angry Men" just this night, and I am astonished by it. The emotional build-up in each act is performed smoothly and efficiently. The blocking, or movement on stage, made sense with what the characters were doing. If you have time go see this show, it is small seating but you really do feel like a fly on the wall in a hot room full of angry men. I can't wait to see more shows by this company.
The (Usual) Suspects are by far the best group I've ever seen do The Rocky Horror Show! They pay homage to the original while adding their own twists to create a very entertaining show. Amazing singing voices, beautiful set pieces, comedic audience interaction, great choreography, ect. I was definitely wowed and can't wait to see their other productions!
I thought the usual suspects did great job. I enjoyed parts of the play better then the actual movie. They did an awesome job getting the crowd involved. For local, affordable entertainment you can't beat it and I look forward to seeing what else the usual suspects come up with.
Fantastic show!! They do a wonderful job performing the show and getting the audience involved! I hope they continue to put on this show for years to come, as we plan to be there every weekend in October!
Working with this group was an experience of collaboration and love. Easily one of, if not the most professional community theater experience you will receive in the Rockford area. They are just as wonderful behind the scenes as they are on the stage. The best part is that they all love what they do and it shows. Because the theater is awesome.
Just left the Nordlof's presentation of "Assassins" . a fantastic show with a fantastic cast. Humor, drama and history (embellished or otherwise) in a neat package. I'm no theater critic, but you won't be disappointed in giving this troupe shot.
Having seen two of their first three productions I can say what a unique theater experience they are bringing to Rockford! The sets, staging and of course, choice of material are simply different and original and eye-opening. The performances have been top-notch. While the storyline of Assassins is difficult, and having a gun pointed at you in light of where we live and the world around us can be a bit traumatic, I couldn't stop thinking about their performance. Each assassin and ensemble member really told an interesting story. I recommend you experience this show and see what you think!
The actors and costuming in Assassins were amazing and transported be to that decade and character in history. At most points I did not feel like I was in a theatre watching this , but was transported to that time in our history. Good job cast and crew. A MUST see!!!!!!
Great customer service. I messed up my online order and thought I'd just send an email seeing if there was a possibility of correcting my error. With in a matter of hours , I got a response and a solution. Being that it was late on a Friday night I never expected such a quick response. Thank you ! Can't wait to see the show.
Twelve Angry Men last night was wonderful. What a terrific play and great performance and staging! The piece captured the elegance and inelegance of the jury room, the tug of power this way and that, the complexity of the act of listening. I loved the way actors turned their chairs and backs to hate - a peaceful, respectful, powerful shunning. Thank you, Usual Suspects!
This was my first time seeing a production by the Suspects! My husband and I enjoyed it! We were blown away by the talent of the cast!We will definitely be there for their next production!Thank you for all the time and energy you put in to a performance!
Amazing! The talent on that small stage was huge! I thoroughly enjoyed this amazing production of a truly unusual musical. Go see it! It's as good, if not better as anything you'd see in Chicago. Well done Usual Suspects!
Assassins was fantastic! I was completely blown away by this production, especially because I didn't know about the show before they announced it. You can feel the amount of work and passion they put into the show and definitely got chills from the insane amount of talent I got to witness! So happy u(S) exists! 🙂
I was blown away by the production of Assassins! The entire experience, from beginning to end, was nothing but good quality theatre. I laughed, I gasped, I quivered with fright and I loved every minute of it. A must see show!
What a wonderful show! I can't say enough about the time, the work and the talent of the entire cast and crew. I didn't know much about the show before I went but you learn an awful lot of history about the attempted assassinations and the assassinations of the Presidents of the United States while seeing this performance. It does not have an intermission, and, you will not miss it. The flow of the show does not need one. I highly recommend seeing it and take everyone you know. You won't regret it!
WOW! What a delightful evening of theatre! Usual Suspects at Nordlof black box theater. ASSASSINS was spectacular in every way. Hilarious at times, sinister and dark at other times. Thought provoking and educational , entertaining and disturbing. Surprises around every corner. OUTSTANDING talent!!! A must see!!! BRAVO to all involved.....on and off stage!!
I saw Assassins on opening night and it was fantastic! The vocals were excellent, the use of the stage (which looked great) and choreography were perfect, and the acting was wonderful. This was my first experience at a Usual Suspects show but I will definitely be back! Keep up the great work!
